What Is a Soul Contract Reading?
A Soul Contract Reading is a system of spiritual numerology that uses the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet to decode the vibrational blueprint encoded in your birth name. Unlike Pythagorean numerology, which reduces your name to a single digit between 1 and 9, the Soul Contract system works with all 22 Hebrew frequencies and maps them onto a Star of David chart with seven distinct positions.
The system was originally channeled by Frank Alper in the 1980s as "The Spiritual Numerology of Moses" and was later refined by Nicolas David Ngan, who published the methodology in his 2013 book Your Soul Contract Decoded. Ngan now trains practitioners worldwide through the Centre for Conscious Ascension.
How Does a Soul Contract Reading Work?
The process begins with your full birth certificate name. The phonetic sounds of your name are converted into Hebrew letter frequencies using a specific conversion table. Combination letters take priority: SH becomes Shin (21), TH becomes Tav (22), CH becomes Chet (8), and others. Single letters map individually, such as A to Aleph (1), B to Beth (2), and so on.
These numbers are then distributed across six positions on a Star of David using a modulo-6 spiral pattern. Each position is summed and reduced to produce a value between 1 and 22 (the X value) and a single digit between 1 and 9 (the Y value). A seventh position at the center, the Soul Destiny, is calculated from the sum of all six positions.
The Seven Positions on Your Chart
The Star of David consists of two overlapping triangles. The downward-pointing physical triangle governs your material life and is said to be most active from birth to approximately age 35. The upward-pointing spiritual triangle governs your inner soul development and becomes predominant from age 35 to 42 onward.
Physical Triangle
Physical Karma: The unconscious material-world patterns you inherited at birth. Shows up as repeated career blocks, financial patterns, and family conditioning around money, work, and success.
Physical Talent: Your innate material-world gift. What people naturally come to you for, career aptitudes, the skill that feels effortless when accessed.
Physical Goal: What your soul is building toward in the material world. The career, legacy, or creation you're meant to build.
Spiritual Triangle
Spiritual Karma: The soul-level wound carried into this lifetime. Emotional patterns, relationship to self, inner critic, spiritual blocks.
Spiritual Talent: Your innate soul-level gift. Intuitive abilities, healing capacity, how you naturally help others grow.
Spiritual Goal: The consciousness you're evolving toward. What spiritual maturity looks like for you.
Soul Destiny
The master frequency at the center of the chart, tying both triangles together into one overarching life purpose.
What Makes Soul Contract Different from Regular Numerology?
The key differences are significant. Regular numerology uses 9 numbers; Soul Contract uses 22. Regular numerology assigns numbers to letters; Soul Contract works with phonetic sounds. Regular numerology gives you one or two numbers for your whole name; Soul Contract distributes frequencies across seven positions with position-specific meanings.
Most importantly, the same number means completely different things depending on its position. Zayin (7) in a karma position indicates deep shame and hiding behind masks. The same Zayin (7) in a talent position indicates magnetic authenticity that catalyzes transformation in others. This positional specificity is what makes Soul Contract readings feel more personally accurate than single-number systems.
The 22 Hebrew Frequencies
The 22 numbers correspond to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, organized according to the Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Creation): three Mother Letters representing primordial elements (Aleph/Air, Mem/Water, Shin/Fire), seven Double Letters corresponding to the classical planets, and twelve Simple Letters corresponding to the zodiac signs.
Five of these are considered Master Numbers (3, 7, 12, 13, 18), carrying intensified energy with greater challenges in karmic positions but proportionally more powerful gifts when transcended.
Who Created the Soul Contract System?
The system traces back to Frank Alper (1930-2007), an American spiritual teacher who founded the Arizona Metaphysical Society in 1974. In the 1980s, Alper channeled a numerological system he attributed to the soul of Moses, which used the Hebrew alphabet as a framework for understanding soul-level patterns.
Nicolas David Ngan, one of Alper's students, refined the methodology into what is now known as Soul Contract Reading and published the definitive reference text, Your Soul Contract Decoded: Discovering the Spiritual Map of Your Life with Numerology, in 2013 through Watkins Publishing.
How to Get Your Soul Contract Chart
Traditionally, Soul Contract charts were calculated by hand by trained practitioners, typically costing $200 or more for a full reading. Today, free online calculators can perform the Hebrew conversion and chart mapping automatically, making the chart itself accessible to anyone. The interpretation of what the chart means for your specific life can be done through a practitioner, an AI-assisted reading, or self-study using the number meanings.
To calculate your chart, you need your full birth certificate name, including all middle names and suffixes. This is considered the precise vibration your soul chose for this incarnation.
